About

Our StoryThe Road Church

In 2009 God began to birth a new work in the heart of our pastor. At that time Glenn was serving in lay ministry along with his wife, Stacy. God began to stir in his heart a call to preach and pastor. Moving forward in this call, they left the comfortable place of ministry where they had been in leadership and stepped out in faith alongside an eldership team of 3 couples that were rooted and grounded in God and His Word; The Road Church was born! Originally named Damascus Road Fellowship, with a vision to see people encounter the Living God and their lives be transformed as Paul’s was on the road to Damascus. In 2021 our name was shortened to The Road Church. The vision is still the same, but the name identifies us more clearly as a church. We are THE CHURCH!

There are many churches to choose from in Ennis, and each one serves a different, yet needed purpose. If there was going to be a new plant in a city already full of church choices, God had to be up to something different! At the time they didn’t know exactly how this story was going to unfold, but they knew they had to follow where God was leading and trust the Lord. With a passion for Jesus and an overflowing love for people, this group began to pray.

Within a few weeks a friend offered space in an historic building he had purchased to renovate and turn into an event center. The building was located on the corner of Ennis Avenue and Dallas Street, right in the center of Ennis. The church met for the first time on July 11, 2010 in a building under construction with a group of about 20 people. There was no air conditioning, in fact there weren’t even windows. The small group swept the place out of construction dust, set up lawn chairs and had church that first Sunday morning!
In January of 2016 we were able to purchase the building! We went from being renters and having part-time use of the building to owning it and being able to open it to use to bless our community. It was also a big perk to not having to tear down all of our chairs and equipment every week; so blessed.
Every opportunity we get we invite the community into our building and strive to make ourselves available to love people and lead them to Jesus. May we never take for granted this beautiful building and fabulous location – it is God’s!! The two biggest annual downtown events, Polka Fest and the Christmas Parade and Block Party, you will find us serving our city with food, fellowship and love!
We have witnessed many amazing miracles of God since He planted us. He has provided in ways for people which we could not have ever done ourselves, or even imagined. God has healed bodies, delivered people from sicknesses and addictions, restored hearts and on and on! And our story is still in progress, God is still at work. Come join The Road Church family!

Senior PastorGlenn Hejny

Glenn has been the pastor of The Road Church since its inception in the summer of 2010. He has an exuberant love for people and a passion for preaching and teaching the word of God. He and his wife, Stacy, work as a team to teach, lead, serve and love The Road family.
Both Glenn and Stacy were raised in Ennis and came to know Jesus through His grace and the power of His word. It is their heart’s desire that just as Paul had an encounter with Jesus on the road to Damascus, all who come to The Road will have their own life-changing encounter with Jesus.
They have been married for 35 years and have two grown children: Andrew and Adam. Adam is married to Haley, and they are parents to the most amazing grandson, Cole.

Children's PastorBarbra Nasozi

Barbra was born and raised in the ghetto suburbs of Uganda. She was raised in Sunday school, where she had the chance to engage with kids from diverse backgrounds. Through these interactions, Barbra gained insight into the various challenges these children encounter in society, challenges she, herself, also experienced. This exposure ignited a longing to ensure that every child could have the chance to attend Sunday school and learn about Jesus. This fervor for the younger generation took root in 2009, when she was designated as a youth leader in her church. During that time Barbra met the love of her life, Godfrey. They were married in 2012 and had children, Vanessa, Abigail and Adlean. Barbra then joined Berakhah Childcare organization in the deep villages of Uganda that cares for the orphaned and vulnerable. By the grace of God she then received a scholarship from Christ For The Nations in Dallas, TX and completed an Advanced Studies Diploma in Theological Ministry majoring in Children and Family. While studying at CFNI Barbra made her way to The Road Church and has been serving with us since 2022. “Your children will be taught by the Lord and great will be their peace,” Isaiah 54:13. Her passion and desire is to see that children learn about God and who they are in Christ. If we teach them the word of God and they develop the fear of the Lord in them, then they have everything they need to overcome the world which prepares them for the future. Her whole heart is for children and she knows this is the call on her life. Little disciples today and great leaders for tomorrow.

Worship Pastor Mark Wisdom

Mark has worn many hats at The Road Church before settling into the role of Worship Pastor. He has served and worshiped as part of the band since 2013. He is passionate about God’s word, about worship, and leading and teaching others about the power that flows through worship when we bring our worship to God with a heart of obedience. He believes that according to Romans 12:1 that worship is more than singing songs to the Lord, but it is to be a lifestyle we live unto God.
Mark is a gifted musician and songwriter. He is amazed that God would give him a gifting that he enjoys so much, and that He allows him to use it for His glory. When you ask Mark about how God has called him to a position to do just that, you will likely hear the response “just living the dream”!
Mark and his beautiful wife Shana both grew up in Ennis and feel blessed to serve the community that has been home to them and their two children, Skylar and Jayden, for all of their lives.

Elders

The prayers, support and accountability of our elders are foundational to The Road Church. We are so thankful for them as they faithfully serve the staff and congregation week after week. Our elders are Bill Wolaver and Robert Burnett.
